I thought you, our donors, and also our potential donors would be interested in what the volunteers at New Creation Church have been doing to impact the Joplin Tornado Survivors this past week and a half.

First, the outside crews:

  • Last week, focused on performing heavy manual labor. They cut apart trees, cleared power lines, patched holes in roofs, hauled rubble to the roadside for pick-up later, and cleared roads.
  • This week, the focus has begun to shift to general clean up- raking debris out of people's lawns, cleaning out fences with power washers, washing cars, repairing fences, etc. It's my guess that about three weeks from now a lot of the construction will begin, people rebuilding their homes.

Second, the inside crews, are on a daily basis:

  • Serving three meals a day to First Responders, volunteers and the community. Typically, we feed between 75-200 people per meal.
  • Distributing goods to disaster victims. Roughly 50 families come in daily to get supplies like food, water, tooth paste, clothing, etc.
  • Hosting volunteers from all over the country. Through our contact with FEMA, we have gotten volunteers from the Red Cross, many different churches, and even the Humane Society.
  • Using the church van to take supplies to people in need throughout Joplin. We have also been giving rides to those who lost their vehicles in the tornado.
  • Enjoying approximately 500 visitors in our building every day.
